Transcendence トランセンデンス

This film is one of the most thought provoking. It depicts love, loyalty, limits, envy and fear, and shows us what misunderstanding and doubt could do. It doesn't show you what is right or wrong, or which is the best solution. It only shows us the thinking of each characters and the consequences from their actions. Johnny Depp（ジョニー・デップ）, Morgan Freeman（モーガン・フリーマン） and Rebecca Hall（レベッカ・ホール） have all done wonderful work in this movie as always. If you love thoughts provoking movies which leave you with a lot of thinking, you will like this movie.

The remake of the classic Disney movie, "Sleeping Beauty" wonderfully depicts both beautiful and gloomy sides of fairy land of Maleficent that feuds with selfish humans. The visual effects and acting are so great that mysterious creatures and the cast look totally in sync, and it truly comes to life in full form by Angelina Jolie（アンジェリーナ・ジョリー）'s stunning skills and presence. It's interesting to see her play a role that requires a lot of nuances to pull of her character with a lot of depth being a bit deliciously evil.

Police Story Legend ポリス・ストーリー／レジェンド

This film follows Jackie Chan（ジャッキー・チェン）'s character in a Die Hard scenario. A bunch of cage fighting criminals have taken hostages in a fortified building, one of them is Jackie's daughter and he must find a way to save them all by himself. This film has some great action scenes but it is not really oriented on that. It shows more of Jackie's dramatic side and he pulls of the role amazingly in this film. Unlike Jackie's earlier films which are lighter in tone, this one is much darker. To clear things up for the fans, this film is not related to the previous 5 Police Story movies, it is a separate film and should be treated as such.

300: Rise of an Empire 300 スリーハンドレッド 帝国の進撃

In an attempt to live up to its predecessor, this film is action-packed, presents impressive visuals and is very bloody. In fact there is more action, more blood, and more nudity than in the original 300. The cast performances were also good, but I would say it was the graphics that ruled the movie. This movie might be rather for graphic geeks and also who love comic strip mode movies. You might want to try it in digital 3D, then the entertainment is guaranteed.

As a Jason Statham（ジェイソン・ステイサム）film, it should have fistfights to show his enemies who is boss, instead, his character troubles facing his demons and has to commit crimes to get what he needs in this film. Some would say it's a strange film, yet it's the sort of strange that is rarely seen in cinema today. The film-making is as magnificent as it needs, and the performances are quite gripping, and the story about people who have to deal with the unfair reality and beat it off with their skills is quite interesting.

Noah ノア 約束の舟

It treats the bible with more respect than it deserves and for those with an open mind this is about the best possible telling of Noah story. It didn't make the story about Noah more plausible, but it was a great story set in timeless environments. I would say this adaptation is quite accurate and true to the biblical story with some tweaking here and there and something fresh made from a old and boring book. The CGI and acting, starring Russell Crowe（ラッセル・クロウ）, co-starring Anthony Hopkins（アンソニー・ホプキンス）, Jennifer Connelly（ジェニファー・コネリー） and Ray Winstone（レイ・ウィンストン）Emma Watson（エマ・ワトソン）is very well done with a top notch director, Darren Aronofsky（ダーレン・アロノフスキー）at the helm. You might want to watch it like you would with any other story made for the screen.

Vampire Academy ヴァンパイア・アカデミー

Another YA adaptation whose fans had been waiting for. It is a faithful adaptation to the book and has all fans captivated, while it is also a great flick for non book fans of all ages as well. We can enjoy action, humor, and an incredibly portrayed friendship. Zoey Deutch（ゾーイ・ドゥイッチ）is gorgeous and charming, and the camera loves her. I would say it is an entertaining fantasy with a story that is a sort of combination of "Harry Potter" with "Twilight".

Another excellent film from Spider-man franchise. It had a good amount of comedy, truly deep emotions, and brilliant action. A great, cohesive film to lead on from the first one. The tender, spiky and very affecting relationship between Andrew Garfield（アンドリュー・ガーフィールド）and Emma Stone（エマ・ストーン）is brilliant, and you can really understand what's going on between them as both actors portray their characters very well. Also, it's more relative to the Spider-man comic books, compared to the Spider-man Trilogy, which might be great for some.

This movie gives us the origins of Jack Ryan. It migh surpass your expectations if you expect an average spy action/thriller. Jack Ryan does not have many action scenes, as he uses more of his intellect than his fists. Still, there are quite a few action scenes that come as a surprise. The exposition parts of the story are at times boring, but when Jack Ryan is doing his mission, it doesn't feel rushed, and it manages to constantly keep you in suspense. Despite following a predictable formula very closely instead of the source material, the movie still works as entertainment.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty LIFE!

The movie is funny, thought provoking, touching at times and startling at others, and entertaining throughout. It strikes an incredible balance between indy/art-house and Hollywood epic. The visuals in this film are particularly fantastic. From the New York offices of LIFE all the way to Iceland. Every scene is perfectly captured and beautiful. The pathos of the main character is well-captured in subtle ways. The acting is superb all around. Ben Stiller（ベン・スティラー）is perfect as Walter Mitty. If you are hoping to see him doing one of his usual humorous roles, you might be disappointed, but if you want to see him capturing the emotions of a man that has a hard time expressing himself, you will love it.

Frozen アナと雪の女王

The story is heart melting filled with the pure feeling and heart which has family at its center. Such gorgeous visuals, environments, costumes, and the brilliant voice talents that make this film a gigantic step forward need to be applauded. The cast consisting of Kristen bell（クリステン・ベル）and Idina Menzel（イディナ・メンゼル）among many others bring winning charm. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ホビット: 竜に奪われた王国

It is another solid blockbuster with lots of action, a decent story and strong special effects. The characters might be more interesting than before for some. Smaug in particular is a great creation both visually and stylishly. The film remains a feast visually, and the cast do solid jobs, for example when Martin Freeman（マーティン・フリーマン）and Ian McKellen（イアン・マッケラン）were allowed to be more than just special effects. The dwarfs made more of an impression, and Benedict Cumberbatch（ベネディクト・カンバーバッチ）was strong as the voice of Smaug, and Sylvester McCoy（シルヴェスター・マッコイ） and Stephen Fry（スティーヴン・フライ） were also superb as supporting roles.

Snowpiercer スノーピアサー

"Snowpiercer" is a fresh experience for a Sci-Fi blockbuster. The genre tends to just blow things up, but it rather brings more soul than extreme panache. I would say it is mainly about a revolution attacking against law enforcers and powerful men, but the scenes focusing on the characters are its biggest strength. While those scenes acknowledge human suffering and longing, it takes a lot of time to express about what they've been through, and those small scenes of humanity simply makes it remarkable. The film benefits by its actors. Chris Evans（クリス・エヴァンス）is always a great leading hero bringing enough impact to the character Curtis. His co-stars, such as Jamie Bell（ジェイミー・ベル）, Octavia Spencer（オクタヴィア・スペンサー）, John Hurt（ジョン・ハート）, and Kang-ho Song（コ・アソン）also bring lively personalities on their roles.
