Yousho no Mori 洋書の森 2018.04

I joined Japan Publisher's Club "Yousho no Mori (Wood of Foreign Books)" Weekend Skill Up Lecture today. I had such an enjoyable and fruitful time with some translators, also some members of "The Wildcat Translation Club of Children's Books" as well as Ms. Tomoko Kodama's eye-opening lecture. Many many thanks. Ms. Tomoko Kodama's new books are being published one after another. Wishing "Yousho no Mori (Wood of foreign books)", which marks 10th anniversary this year, and their members continued success and prosperity.
本日は日本出版クラブ「洋書の森」ウィークエンドスキルアップ講座へ参加いたしました。こだまともこ先生の目からウロコなお講義に加え、翻訳者の皆さま方、「やまねこ翻訳クラブ」のお仲間たちにも会え、楽しく充実したひと時を過ごせまして誠にありがとうございます。先生の新作も続々と出版が続くそう。今年10周年を記念される「洋書の森」の更なるご発展、会員の皆さまのご活躍をお祈り申し上げます。

Porto ポルト

Two outsiders in the northerly Portuguese city of Porto experienced a brief connection. A mystery remains about the moments they shared, and in searching through memories, they relive the depths of a night uninhibited by the consequences of time. A wonderful actor who died way too young, Anton Yelchin（アントン･イェルチン）is outstanding as a broken-heart man. The film shows love and connection in a painful yet very elegant and poignant way, so it feels real and deeply sad and simply beautiful.

Kittens' story time おはなしこねこの会 2018.04

I joined "Kittens' story time", a read-aloud session hosted by "The Wildcat Translation Club of Children's Books" today, and was lucky enough to be able to read aloud some wonderful picture books in front of such adorable little book lovers at Junkudo Ikebukuro Honten children's books section, such a hear-warming and beautiful urban oasis in the middle of Tokyo. Many many thanks for such a wonderful opportunity. Good boys and girls who love picture books, please come and join us. They are holding their regular sessions every month at Junkudo Ikebukuro Honten and Maruzen Marunouchi Honten.
本日は「やまねこ翻訳クラブ」の読み聞かせ会「おはなしこねこの会」に参加いたしまして、ジュンク堂池袋本店の児童書フロアにて、可愛らしい絵本好きな子どもたちの前でステキな絵本を読ませていただきました。東京のど真ん中にこんなにも心温まる美しい都会のオアシスがあったのですね。すばらしい良縁をありがとうございます。絵本大好きっ子なよい子の皆さま、よかったら遊びにいらしてくださいね。ジュンク堂池袋本店と丸善丸ノ内本店にて毎月開催されてますよ。

Same Kind of Different as Me 奇跡の絆

Such a powerful and touching film based on the true story covering many difficult subjects in a very beautiful way. Renee Zellweger（レニー･ゼルウィガー）'s story is told through the eyes of her art dealer's husband, Greg Kinnear（グレッグ･キニア）and heavily involves a homeless person, Djimon Hounsou（ジャイモン･フンスー）who we get to know as the film unfolds. Great racial strife and emotional scenes are seen through flashbacks, and all three character arcs are moving and fleshed out amazingly well.

Lucy the Cat in Tokyo 2 ねこのルーシー とうきょうへいく 2

"Lucy the Cat in Tokyo 2" with my translation has been published this week. This is a picture book written from such an adorable cat (Sacred Birman), Lucy's point of view with lots of humor. Continuing from the 8th series, Lucy tells about her Tokyo stay in the 9th. We can enjoy some well-known touristic scenes in Tokyo such as Aqua City and Rainbow Bridge in Odaiba, Shinagawa Aquarium, Ueno Park, National Diet Library, Government Building, also her bizarre dreams such as knocking down Tokyo Tower and appearing on a sumo ring with some wrestlers, plus even her enjoyable moments during the tea ceremony and flower arrangement. I sincerely hope both children and adults will enjoy this very charming Lucy's world both in English and in Japanese.
今週、翻訳いたしました『ねこのルーシー とうきょうへいく 2』が出版されました。なんとも愛らしいバーマン猫、ルーシーの視点から見た世界が、ユーモアたっぷりに描かれた絵本。シリーズ9巻目では、ルーシーは8巻目に引き続き、東京滞在について話します。お台場のアクアシティやレインボーブリッジ、しながわ水族館、上野公園、国立国会図書館、都庁ビルといった東京の名物観光シーンや、東京タワーを倒したり、お相撲さんと土俵に現われたりする突拍子もない夢、さらには茶道や生け花を楽しむ様子など、とってもチャーミングなルーシー･ワールドを、英語と日本語のバイリンガルで子供も大人もお楽しみいただければ幸甚です。
